Most Common "Q" And "A" On Moving
- What do I need to do to prepare for my move?
Answer: In a normal door-to-door move the shipper should take the following steps:
Analyze your household to determine those items that are not worth shipping. Almost everyone accumulates "things" they do not
really want to ship. Ideally these items should be removed from residence before your Highland Worldwide Consultant comes to
the residence to make the pre-move estimate.
- Once I have eliminated unnecessary items, what´s next?
Answer: If a move has more than one part (i.e.: airfreight, ocean freight, or permanent storage) the shipper should have firmly
fixed in their mind what goods are going by what method. As the airfreight is normally a very small portion, it is best if this
can be separated into a spare closet or the corner of one room. These are the goods you will need first and we will want to remove
them the first day. The more organized the shipper is, the easier the entire move will be. Preplanning pays big dividends!
- I have eliminated unwanted goods and sorted according to routing method. Now do I have to pack?
Answer: In a door-to-door move the owner is expected to pack nothing. That is what Highland Worldwide Group is being paid for
and we are specialists in this, it is important a professional pack your goods so there can be no questions should you have
to file a claim.
- How far in advance should I schedule the pack and load dates?
Answer: Once you know what dates you are leaving the country, you need to call for scheduling. Highland Worldwide Group will discuss the
number of days required based on the size of your shipment. It is always advisable to leave one free day from the completion
of your pack and load to when you are actually catching your plane. There are always last minute details you need to take care
of and a "free day" allows you flexibility for this.
- How long will it take for my goods to arrive?
Answer: A normal air freight shipment will take 5 - 10 days after leaving your house. Customs can take another 3 - 5 days
assuming all paperwork is in order. Ocean transit will normally be in the 45-day range. Off loading the vessel and clearing
customs will take another 3 - 5 days.
- What is required of me when I arrive?
Answer: As quickly as feasible on your arrival in country, you should check in with the designated Destination agent. They will
need your assistance in filling out import documentation and will want a local phone number on file.
- Once I have checked with the destination agent, what is the next step?
Answer: Once again, you have paid for a door-to-door move. This means the agent will clear, deliver, unpack and remove all
debris. All you have to do is work with that agent to schedule delivery time ... he will do the rest.
- What if I have damages?
Answer: When you use Highland Worldwide Group to perform an international relocation, you have taken a big step in minimizing
damages. However, no company can promise you a claim free move. In any household goods´ relocation it is only prudent to
take out an adequate amount of insurance to protect your possessions. At the beginning of your move process, Highland Worldwide Group
will counsel you on insurance and the costs involved. We offer full value (not "depreciated") protection underwritten by Lloyds
of London. Once you have determined the amount required you would be issued a policy that protects your possessions from
the time the
movers arrive at your home until the movers depart from your destination home. You have 30 days after delivery to make your final
inspection and file a claim. All forms for the claim procedure are included in your insurance policy. If assistance is required,
the destination agent will be happy to help you.
