Got hit with a huge car bill and need an extra few days to come up with the rent? Found a leaking pipe in the basement? Let them know right away so you can work something out.
6) Follow your lease.
Respect the rules you and your landlord agreed to at the start of your tenancy and obey your lease! Don’t do anything questionable—painting the walls, adopting a new pet, subletting your extra room—without checking in first. Talk to your landlord about making any changes to the lease or special requests before you get yourself in a sticky situation.
7) Be kind.
Treat your landlord, and their property, thoughtfully in order to foster a positive relationship. Keep your place neat, clean, and well-maintained. Be polite and considerate when you report problems, make requests, and just generally interact. Don’t forget to express gratitude when they make accommodations or handle issues for you either!
